From the Beach to the Mountains (AKA Free Travel)

¡Hola familia y amigos!

¡Que viaje hemos tenido!   No puedo creer solo tenemos diez y seis dias mas.  Estamos disfrutando cada momento.

It is very hard to believe that we only have sixteen days left in our trip!  Time is flying far too fast.  We are enjoying every single moment though.

We left Playa Gigante in a pick-up truck to San Juan del Sur.  San Juan del Sur is a larger and slightly more touristy beach town about an hour and a half away from Playa Gigante.  Most of us took advantage of the free time by, relaxing, swimming, and sleeping without the sounds of roosters.  The ocean was by far the most refreshing that we have been in thus far.  Not too different from the water in Maine.  Although I enjoyed the sun I don´t know what I would have done without the ocean!

Then came the border crossing…  We made it into Costa Rica safe and sound.  Although, with that came a long day of traveling.  We started at eight and didn´t get into Monteverde until five.

The long travel day was well worth it.  We are in the town of Santa Elena not far from Monteverde.  I think that it safe to say we are very happy to be here.  The weather here is a very nice change!  We are fairly high in the mountains, and it is overcast for the majority of the day. In fact, right now I am wearing a fleece sweatshirt.  No complaints here though.

Today a few of us went ziplining through the mountains.  We started the morning very nervous but as we continued we enjoyed it more and more.  There were thirteen ziplines, a tarzan swing, and a superman zipline.  The tarzan swing was by far one of the scariest things that I have ever done.  During the tarzan swing, you free fall for about 40 ft, and then you swing through the trees.  I am surprised no one at home heard me screaming.  The Spiderman zipline was about 1 km long.  We were flying through the mountains (with harnesses but it still counts).  Even though sometimes it was hard to look, the things we saw were awe-inspiring.

Tonight we will be doing a night tour of the Cloud Forest.  Tomorrow we head out to San Jose for a day where we will hanging out at the sloth sanctuary!

Free travel has been a lot of fun and worth the long hours of research.
