Roming Rome

The Colosseum!

Written By Ishtar & Gavin

The Carpe Terra Group has marched through the busy streets of Rome — a big switch from the countryside where we started! Our bellies are full with pasta and pizza — as expected. On our first day, we met our new Italian language teacher, Michaela, from whom we learned to ask, “Come ti chiami?” and “Come sai?”. To this we answer, “Mi chiamo Terra Group!” and “Bene, grazie!”. In the evening, we made a trip to St. Peter’s Basilica and the Musei Vatica (the Vatican Museum) in which we saw the Sistine Chapel.

Day two! We met Lauren who would travel with us on the Via Francigena. She took us on a tour of Rome from the Pantheon, to checking out old Italian houses and fountains, cut out neighborhoods, a historical Roman theatre, and a quick view of the famous Colosseum.

Day three! The groups last big walk in the shopping area of Rome. Us students put our growing knowledge of the Metro subway system to the test. Rome presented us with many mini markets with open walkways and vintage shops. We also sad a grateful goodbye to Michaela with cappuccinos and espressos — a proper Italian breakfast!

For our last night, we made dinner reservations at “That’s Amore” — like the song! — and visited the Trevi fountain where we made lots of wishes with gold euro coins.

After Rome, we were all craving the countryside again, where we hope to find even more connection with each other. Off to pilgrimage in Tuscany! (Note – we finished our pilgrimage and a blog about it will come later this week!)

Thank you for reading, and Happy Autumno!
