First Blog from Jelte, Danny, and Nola

We arrived in Guatemala a couple of days ago and have been doing orientation and exploring the city of Quetzaltenango. Its a really nice city surrounded by volcanos that many of us have hiked. Yesterday, Danny, John, Kerry, Emily, Audrey, Ariana, and Jelte hiked to Baul Mountain and enjoyed a great view of the city and picniced atop the mountain. While hiking down, they were caught in a rainstorm and returned drenched. Others stayed in the city and explored the Mercado Democratia. We’ve had the opportunity to eat on our own and as a group. Many people have gone to yoga classes in the city while others were just chilling in the hostel.

Everyone in the group loves each other. We are having a great time.

It’s gorgeous here but often rains in the afternoon. Occasionally the water and the electricity are turned off in the city. You can’t put the toilet paper in the toilet, but despite all of this we are loving every second of our trip. Tomorrow we are moving into our homestays and are all eager to meet our families.
