Broken Vans & 5 Star Resorts

Hey yall. It´s been a trying journey to Antigua but we finally made it.  We were in the car from San Andres for about 16 hours yesterday.  First 2 bridges had construction and we couldn´t pass, so we detoured a few hours, which brought us back to Coban for lunch, after which our van´s radiator overheated. After fixing it using our drinking water we traveled onward until the condition of the vehicle deteriorated to the point that we had to stop.  We were in an area unfamiliar to us called El Rancho, no place was open to help us fix the car, so we had to stay in what seems to have been the only hotel in town.  It was much more than we could have expected.  After our grueling journey we found a diamond in the rough.  Despite being a little more pricey than our usual hostels, we ended up being happy to be forced to spend the night there.  It was extremely nice and had a pool with waterslides and really great rooms and hot water.  We had a delicious breakfast this morning and some of us took the chance to go swimming before we left.

Antigua is so different from everywhere we have been so far, the look of it sort of reminds me of Europe.  We all took the opportunity to have our laundry done, and some of us went to dinner in a very hole in the wall type place.  It was a small store in front, you never would have known you could get a meal in the back.  However, the food was delicious! We leave for Pasac village tomorrow, and don´t really know what to expect.  But after being in Rocja Pomtilla, I think we all agree we can handle whatever is coming for us.  We all have developed a deep appreciation for showers, hot or cold.
