Hello to all of our friends and family! We have just arrived in Jinja, Uganda, back from our 5 day volunteering project at the Mawoito school. We successfully completed our project of painting a block of three classrooms. Today we were thanked by the teachers and students with a performance of local songs and dances and many speeches by school board members and the head master of the primary school. We also performed a few songs of our own.
We are now back at the campsite along side the big beautiful Nile river before we leave for free travel! We have all worked together to research and budget the next week of our travels of an activity of our choosing. We are all very excited to travel about 100 miles north of the capital Kampala to spend this upcoming week volunteering at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. They are a non-profit organization committed to the protection of rhinos in Uganda to rebuild the depleted population that has been plagued by poachers for many years. The sanctuary is home to the first rhino- Baby Bella- born in Uganda in the last 27 years. We will be staying at the sanctuary, seeing rhinos up close on rhino patrols, helping with road repair, and also working with the other animals that call the sanctuary home. We are so blessed to see this greatly endangered species and are so happy to be in lush, green, beautiful Uganda!
Traveling along!
