limbering before scubaThe past week has been incredible and the cherry on top of our already delicious travel adventures. The week began with the closing two days of free travel. We used the penultimate day of free travel to embark on a day trek into the Phu Quoc National Park. From there we traveled to one of Forbes Top 10 Most Beautiful Beaches located on a remote part of the island. Though beautiful, we all collectively agreed that top 10 is generous… maybe more like an 11 or a 12.
Our last day of free travel was planned as our “relaxation / free day” and we did just that. soaked up the sun in the morning and in the afternoon a handful of us rented a fleet of kayaks and paddle boards while others continued to labor away lazily in their lawn chairs.
From the end of free travel, to the beginning of our scuba training, the days consisted mostly of banana pancakes and Pho(until the sriracha ran out) with sun in between.
Scuba diving took up 4 long days, the first being entirely spent indoors, watching hours of redundant scuba videos and taking a number of standardized test… pretty much the opposite of what experiential learning is all about and the main reason why a few group members, whose names will remain undisclosed, struggled to the point of yelling about the test and at the actual test itself. Once these very one-sided arguments came to an agreement, everybody eventually passed the test and was now ready to hit the open water.
The second day consisted of uneventful open water skills tests in 1 meter deep water, but the third in forth days were where all the excitement was to be revealed. The last two days of diving were fantastic! We all had to be up and ready by 7, the boat would leave by 7:45, after an hour or so boat ride to our first dive site and we were in the water. There were some skeptics in our group prior to our first dive, but once the first dive was through and their minds were thoroughly blown, they were skeptics no more! After our first dive we were fed and then taken to the second dive site where naturally we dove for the second time that day. It was equally thrilling and being able to breath underwater is something in my opinion that is never going to feel ordinary no matter how long your scuba dive for. Carpe Diem SEAsia 2013 dream team OUT.
