Happy Easter from Areaquipa! It´s our last day here and many of us spent Easter morning feasting on traditional Peruvian Easter breakfasts with our home stay families. Being in Areaquipa for Semaña Santa has been quite the experience. On Holy Thrusday, we wandered around the streets of the city center doing the ¨Chruch Crawl.¨ We went from chruch to chruch attending Mass and sampling cow heart and fruit juices along the way.
This past week, we also finished up with Spanish classes and volunteering at the albergue (girls home). As tradional in South America, we had a despedida (going away party) to thank everyone we have met in these past two weeks. We shared dances, an Easter egg hunt, and a cake fight with the girls at the albergue.
We also wandered around the Monasterio de Santa Catalina the other evening. It was amazing! It´s sad to be leaving Areaquipa, but I know we´re all stoked for Cuzco!
All the best!
