After our action packed week of adventure it was time to dive into the cultural side of New Zealand. We arrived at the Korohe Marae on a sunny Monday, ready to live communally within the Marae. The Maori people who live on the marae welcomed us with open arms and a traditional Maori ceremony. The whole group didn't understand what was being said but we are sure it wasn't about us. One day we learned about two Maori houses of learning, the house of silence and the house of nothingness. We also learned about the Maori warriors and got to hold some of the weapons they use. The day to day was breakfast, daily chores, lunch, then going on hikes and going to lakes. Which the hikes and lakes were very scenic. The whole week was one big cultural experience we'll carry with us for the rest of our lives.
