Hello readers of the Hongi FANZ blog! Our week at Blue Mountain Adventure Center was exciting but tough for all. We started our week of adventures by spelunking on Monday. We were all surprised by how intense this first activity was. Only a handful of us had ever gone caving before, so I think I can speak for the group when I say that the intensity was a surprise! If being in a cave, in a mountain, in New Zealand doesn’t sound daunting enough, let me remind you that spiders exist and they like to reside in dark caves. Luckily, none of us came in close contact with anything but some rad glow worms! Staring our week of adventures off with spelunking really brought our group closer together. Some of us (me) struggled with that activity and I know that if it weren’t for the encouragement and help from the rest of my group, I wouldn’t have been able to make my way to the beautiful waterfall that awaited us at the end. Throughout our week, we all struggled and strived during different activities. Some of us with heights, others with our climb to the summit of the Red Crater. Despite our different fears, we were there to support each other through every challenge we encountered.
At BMAC, personal growth is something that they hold close to their hearts. I can speak for everyone in saying that we all grew over the past week, personally and as a whole. BMAC was a great place for our group to grow stronger, closer, and better equipped for whatever this wonderful trip will throw at us next!
