The last few days have mainly been R&R time outside of Arusha on the Usa River. We have been staying with Mze Pete and Mama Charlotte Oneal, both former members of the black panther party. They have taken us into their UAACC (United American Alliance Community Center) that they established in the 90’s to better the community through education. While here, we were able to watch movies, participate in Yoga, learn about Batik, Play some instruments and play some basketball with the Watotos. We were given an amazing opportunity to sit down with Mze Pete and Mama Charlotte to talk and ask question. Although they have been through hardships, they each had one great message. Pete believes that, “Even if all you do is Spit, just do something”. Mama Charlotte told us to never change ourselves to fit in, even if it means not shaving your facial hair. Tomorrow we depart at 6 in the morning to take a public bus to Dar Se Salaam. It’s a whopping 10 hour journey! The following day, we take another 8 hour bus to Iringa in Southern Tanzania to volunteer at the Mufindi Orphanage.
Until Next Time, Peace out!
