Greetings its Maleea from the middle of the world!
We have spent this week in the capital city of Ecuador, Quito. Every morning we have had one on one Spanish classes, such an amazing way to learn a language! Then in the afternoons we have activities lasting till around dinner, very busy.
On Sunday our first day here we all threw our stuff in the Center and headed to a football game! It was so crazy, the fans were cheering, playing drums, and going crazy. The home team won! Monday we took a tour of The Working Boys Center. I was so surprised how much the center does for the families. I thought it was just a school, but I learned that there are many more aspects of the center that we all had the opportunity to explore Friday. On Tuesday we headed up the windy hills of Quito to visit the homes of families in the center. The families were very proud of their homes and happy to be showing us. I was very impressed because the houses were really nice and hearing the story of each family was very inspiring. On Wed we went to the middle of the world! We all piled on a busy bus and headed to the equator. Here some of us were able to balance an egg on a nail, others failed.. like me. We also learned that on the equator because gravity is pushing you down you become less strong, we tested this and I think it´s going to be the only time I’m stronger then Andy! On Thur we got a tour of the old city. We walked through the old cobble stone streets and learned all about the history. We ended the tour by climbing the bell towers of old Bicilla. And on Friday after class we had an afternoon to explore and learn on our own. I shadowed a volunteer in the small clinic they had at The Working Boys Center. There wasn’t much to do in the clinic but it was a great opportunity for me to learn about the health care classes and clinic. Im really excited because I could see myself working and living at the Center after college. It would be such an amazing opportunity and a great challenge. On Saturday our last day in Quito we all hoped in a van and went to the near by hot springs! It was an amazing way to end a stress full week and start a fun Free Travel week in Peru!
