We just finished up a week at San Marcos filled with some awesome learning activities and for many a spiritual self discovery. However our final days in San Marcos saw endless tropical rains that prolonged our stay and probably drove a few of us over the edge with cabin fever. The rains caused numerous landslides on some major roads that prevented us from finding a reliable way out and leaving immediately. Fortunately the postponement was only one day and early Sunday morning we began a grueling 10 hour bus ride to the city of Coban. On the way to Coban we stopped in a familiar place, Antigua, for a bit and got to relive the memories of our first week together. Upon arrival at Coban we recieved some tragic news that our stay at Rocj Pumtila would be cancelled indefinately due to flooding and bad roads. Yesterday we enjoyed the sights of Coban, touring a coffee plantation (and getting to sample some AWESOME coffee), taking advantage of the local market for a 5 star home made lunch, and just enjoying the sunshine we have been so deprieved of for the last week. Last night we all enjoyed the most amazing dinner that would not have been possible without Alaina, Abbie, Kristen, Jacob, Rachel, and Charlotte. Today we are heading of to Semuc Champey for the day to explore caves, see The Elvish Falls, and go swimming. Tomorrow we will be back in Coban for one more night before we head off to San Andres to start another week of Spanish school and since we are going early, take part in some volunteer activities.
Just letting everyone at home know we are safe and sound. Though we miss everyone very much our CAM family here has gotten closer than ever. We will keep the good times rolling here.
Buena Suerte
