As we spent our last couple of days in Matagalpa enthusiastically talking about our Halloween trek through the Selva Negra all of the talk finally became realistic. Our 30 minute car ride was filled with excitement as we inched closer and closer to our hiking destination. Once we started our trek we stopped every so often to take some pictures and take in all the scenery that was around us in the beautiful Cloud Forest. Each step was filled with a new type of beauty and a new challenge that felt equally satisfying to achieve. As we trekked through the forest we finally made it to solid ground and finished the rest of our journey until we finally made it to the camp ground. The night was misty and spooky which felt fitting for Halloween. And although we didn’t get to dress up in full costumes we were able to sit around a campfire as we shared a single bag of Snickers and a pack of oreos between us all. After we all were packed away in our tents we awoke to the crisp smell of a new day and made our 3 hour trek to a waterfall nearby and ended our day in Matagalpa.
