Dear friends and family,
Nkula group met on September 16th at PDX airport. It felt a little strange seeing all the new faces and beginning to get to know each other.
We arrived in Uganda on Thursday night at 11:15pm. Friday saw us transferring from Entebbe to the eastern town of Jinja. The drive was beautiful, and we passed many cozy and colorful homes. We spent three nights in Jinja for our orientation. Our first night out there was a large storm and it was raining cats and dogs, with the wind blowing dust in our eyes. The streets were empty as all the locals, ourselves included, were taking shelter under covered shopfronts.
The best part of Jinja was getting the opportunity to raft the Nile river! The rapids seemed like hungry hippos trying to flip our raft. OK, i may have exaggerated the hippo part, as there are no hippos in this part of the river. This was our first bonding moment as a group, and the adrenaline we all felt on the river coursed through our veins.
Tune in next week for our upcoming adventures in east Africa!
