Student Policies & Expectations
CARPE DIEM STUDENT POLICIES
- Violation of a Level One Policy will almost always result in immediate dismissal from the program.
- Violation of a Level Two Policy has potential for immediate dismissal, but may result in a verbal or written B-Plan to identify problematic behavior, outline steps to correct, and establish clear consequences if steps are not met.
- Continued violation of policies will result in dismissal from the program.
- Parents may be notified whenever a B-Plan is issued.
Level One
- No alcohol*, tobacco**, marijuana (THC or CBD), or illegal drugs - This includes the consumption, purchase, possession, or proximity to alcohol or drugs that are illegal in the U.S.A. and/or in the countries of your Carpe Diem program. This also includes abuse, misuse, or distribution of prescription and/or over-the-counter drugs. *In RARE occasions, the Director of Programs may approve light use of alcohol if supervised by CDE staff and part of an educational directive. **We aim to return without new smokers, and vaping is illegal in some countries where Carpe travels.
- No sexual misconduct or abuse of any kind - All students are expected to contribute to a safe and positive learning environment. Sexual misconduct of any kind, physical violence or bullying against another person, animal, or property is strictly not allowed.
- No unexcused absences - Students are expected to communicate their whereabouts proactively to their Overseas Educator: “missing person” protocols are exhaustive, cumbersome, and emotionally trying for all parties involved.
Level Two
- I will not engage in unsanctioned activities, harmful behaviors, nor break the law - This includes riding (as a passenger or pilot) on motorcycles, ATVs, and mopeds; participating in unsanctioned adventure activities (such as skydiving or bungee jumping, etc.); nor ignoring curfews set by the Overseas Educators.
- I will challenge myself culturally, personally, and emotionally - This includes full participation in all aspects of the program as well as adherence to the technology policy.
- I will abide by all group agreements - Group agreements are created by students and Overseas Educators during in-country orientation.
- I will treat myself and others with respect - This includes treating all members of my group, local contacts, and others I encounter with respect while traveling, regardless of race, culture, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or religion. This also includes culturally appropriate clothing/language, individual space/belongings, and adherence to the smoking etiquette.
