SCUBLOG

So, it turns out if you’re on a boat for too long you become rather socially awkward.

Shocking, right?

Well, aside from the painful silences that accompanied several of the Cairns Dive Centre staff’s unfortunate jokes all too often, the occasional sea sickness and abrupt shortage of running water, the dive week was fantastic! (And I really do mean that.) I think I can speak for the entirety of our group when I say that The Great Barrier reef has enough majesty and profound beauty within its vast expanse to compensate for virtually any misfortune.

Our days on the Kangaroo Explorer consisted of diving, eating, more diving, eating, oh hey- another dive!, and sleeping. The reef itself is a labyrinth of underwater pathways and caves, occupied by coral forests teeming with an abundance of marine life. (Frequent cameos by sharks, sea turtles, octopi, and barracudas were especially delightful!)

Words really can’t do our aquatic adventures any justice, it’s something one has to see to understand. I personally feel immensely grateful for the opportunity to do so.

Now, we’re stretching our newfound sea legs on land, spending our last day in Port Douglas, and soaking our bittersweet final moments together in – along with some rays at the beach, of course. Tonight- the feast to end all feasts. LET’S DO IT BIG Y’ALL! SNACK TOGETHER DIE TOGETHER!

And that’s it.

See all you Americans tomorrow :’)

Love,

Katie
