Hello from San Marcos! We arrived here Monday after the three day trek, which was everything we hoped it would be…difficult, exciting, beautiful, and really tiring. Our first day, which lasted about 10 hours, ended with a night spent camping on a river that provided a nice backdrop to a deep deep sleep. Day 2 began with a struggle, as we all felt the aches and pains of the day before kicking in when we put on our packs. Energy stayed high, though, and we made it through a significantly shorter day to the house that we were staying in that night. Many of us enjoyed the benefits of the temazcal for our sore muscles, played a few card games, and went to sleep early after dinner. We woke up around 5am the next day so we could hike to the edge of Lago Atitlan to watch the sunrise. It was really incredible and something worth waking up that early to see again. The volcanoes and mountains surrounding the huge gorgeous lake is an unforgettable site.
Here in San Marcos we are staying at La Paz, a hotel that has offered us awesome lofts to live in. The hotel´s vegetarian restaurant has kept our stomachs happy. We´re all pursuing different interests here…some have taken an interest in massage while others are looking into reiki and energy healing. We´re all taking time to enjoy the vibe of the community and time to relax and calm ourselves. The leisurely pace of life here is benefiting all of us in different ways.
Until next time,
Kira and Blake
