Shangu and I arrived in Portland just 11 days ago, but in someways time has flown by and in other way it seems like months ago that I stepped off the train in Portland and made my way over to where we were doing out staff training and prep. Our days have been a mix of getting to know this crazy, beautiful, diverse, passionate, inspiring group of other Overseas Educators and learning the in’s and out’s of our itineraries, a wilderness medicine certification and occasionally necessary, but not so inspiring things, like budgeting. I wanted to share a photo I snapped one morning. It was the first day of school in Portland and we had been challenged to do a random act of kindness for someone. It was part of a scavenger hunt. Carpe Diem loves scavenger hunts. In this photo Shangu is buying two bouquets of flowers to give to two special (but random) teachers at Jefferson High School, just down the street from Carpe Diem HQ. The other person you see in the photo actually let us into the store early to help us out with our task. We really appreciated that.
