We are 81 days into our journey and we are preparing to say our goodbyes. We have spent the last five days in the Australian outback sleeping under the stars, hiking our way through the unreal beauty and watching our small family of fourteen get weirder by the day. On the first day we were picked up in Alice Springs by our hilarious guide Dan. He took us on small hikes through various gorges and up to unreal outlooks on the way to our riverside bush campsite where we watched the sunset. We ate a wonderful meal cooked over the campfire then snuggled into our swags for the night under a bright moon and the milky way.
The following days were filled with four-wheeled driving along roads that were a little too bumpy, gorgeous stretches of red sand, and through dried out rivers. The scenery was truly unforgettable and indescribable. Our nights were spent around the fire making s'mores and sharing stories with Dan. On the last night we acted out memorable moments from the trip and were caught up in happy nostalgia. We woke up at 5 am to make it to Uluru, the largest free standing rock in the world, for the sunrise which was out of this world. Once the sun rose we took off for a walk around the base of the rock.
The outback has been one of the most enjoyable and memorable weeks of the trip. It has been a wonderful way to spend the last days of the trip together.
