OE Reflections of Quetzal Fall ’25

Final Airport selfie </3

Written by OEs, Abby & Mary

To our special unit of girls, what a treasure it has been to share this time with you, traversing Central America together. As we sit here and reminisce about our semester, we are overcome with bittersweetness. Firstly, we are immensely proud of each and every one of you; you have embodied leadership, embraced growth, and shared love in so many ways. These ten weeks have been saturated with profound experiences and deep learning, but also abundant laughter and joy, and for that we are so grateful. You aren’t solely our students; you are our amigas, our familia.

The little ecosystem we cultivated is one that thrived despite challenges, and that is attributed to each member’s invaluable and unique contribution. We have a warm sloth (Lucina), a vibrant macaw (Hannah), a bright hummingbird (Cece), a majestic quetzal (Jackie), and a bubbly coati (Lauren). This crew would not have been whole without a single one of you. Thank you for being you, and for sharing your whole heart.

Throughout our time together, we have seen your confidence and independent travel skills soar. We have marveled at your ability to connect cross-culturally, put your best foot forward in learning a new language, and engage in sustainable ways of living. None of us are returning the same as we arrived, having changed for the better. We trust each one of us will take the gained wisdom and widened perspectives to impact those we encounter ahead. As heartbreaking as it is to walk away from our beautiful community, we have footsteps to fulfill in our own journeys and missions. May we continue to catalyze positive change around the globe! Despite us crossing the Carpe Diem finish line, please know that this unit of seven is always here for you; the web we’ve collectively woven will never be broken.

You already know your two sentimental OEs are tearing up writing this, so we need some humor to help alleviate the tenderness! Giggling together was one of our favorite aspects of this trip, therefore here is a written version of a semester bloopers reel:
