Just finished up with a hard, but satisfying week on the farm. Shout out to the Hart family for their beautiful place and warm hospitality. Most of our days were spent in the woods, chopping up bush and creating paths for the Harts and whomever else. We’re proud of what we accomplished this past week, which includes a long and beautiful mountain bike trail that we made from scratch.
In the morning, groups of us would switch off helping out Greg (Hart family father and beast of a man) with the animals. We milked cows, fed pigs and chickens, and herd cattle. This was a first time experience for many of us. At night, groups of us switched off helping Rachel (Hart family mother and lovely woman) with a nice, home cooked meal. After dinner, Greg had some very eye-opening documentaries for us to watch. They included topics like global warming, the speciality (and downfall) of human nature, and industrial farming. And that pretty much sums up a very unique week and experience on an incredible New Zealand farm. A few highlights were watching the sheep that we ate for dinner get slaughtered (for some of us at least) and catching the most beautiful sunset at the highest point on the Hart family farm. And now, we get a little time to relax, and I’d say we earned it. We’re headed to Waikarki (best spelling) beach for a few days to just chilllll. Then we’re going to hike the mountain some call Mt. Doom. We are all super excited for that. Definitely has the potential to be a highlight of the whole trip. And there you have it. Another week conquered, and many many more adventures waiting for us.
