We can’t believe it’s already time for our incredible cohort of 2014 Latitudes Students to take off!
The past two days have been jam packed and we’d love to thank all of our students for being so attentive, helpful, engaged, and hilarious.
We’d also like to thank all of the guest speakers who came to help us out and inspired us along the way. We hosted an alumni panel in which former Latitudes students spoke about their experiences from a students’ perspective. We were also honored to hear from Amie Riley, the Executive Director of Casa Verde and one of our Focused Volunteer Placement partners. We also had workshops from both Ethan Knight, the founder of Carpe Diem Education, and Hansell Bourdon, the Executive Director of Carpe Mundi.
In between providing logistical information and meeting with each student individually to discuss their goals and dreams for their focused volunteer placement, we found ourselves tossing the frisbee, playing in the nearby river, practicing yoga, laughing, exploring the forest, and even finding time to complete a conservation service project nearby. Our alumni team kept us nourished the entire time with delicious meals, and we also made S’mores down by the bonfire in celebration of Dylan’s 19th birthday.
We ended last night with a sweet closing ceremony in which our students astounded us with their passion and eloquence. This morning we are saying final goodbyes before our groups split ways and head off to join their Overseas Educators and begin the group semester. We wish you all the best of journeys!
With gratitude,
Simone, Amanda, and Avy (your Latitudes team)
Grant (our Latitudes Orientation coordinator)
Noah, Angie, and Mariah (our alumni helpers)
Tate (our alumni kitchen manager)
