I have been in the incredible city of Bilbao for about a month now and it has been a great experience so far. Bilbao is a city located in Northern Spain in a region referred to as “Basque Country”. Basque Country is an especially unique part of Spain; it has it’s own language, in addition to spanish, called Euskara. This language is unlike any other in the world and it is honestly very difficult to speak haha. Basque Country actually wasn’t even granted the status of nationality within Spain until 1978 and the locals are very proud of their origin.
I have met many amazing people from all over the world and I couldn’t be happier that I am getting the opportunity to be immersed in this culture. I have really enjoyed getting to explore Casco Viejo (Old Town), Pintxos (A very typical snack in Spain), San Sebastian, and the biggest attraction here in Bilbao, the famous museum, Guggenheim (I am actually planning on returning this week to see the work of Yoko Ono).
I have participated in Spanish and Cooking Courses and I am looking forward to starting my Culinary Arts internship next week!
