Q: What is your happiest memory from being on the Hart family farm?
Justin S: Probably the first day that we arrived when we were overwhelmed with the beauty all around us and the activities we were about to take part in.
Q: What is the one lesson or value you took away from being at the farm?
Holly B: It taught me that it’s possible for people to be sustainable while also treating the earth and its inhabitants with respect.
Q: What pushed you out of your comfort zone the most?
Justin S: When we docked the lambs. I thought I initially wouldn’t have a problem with it, but it made me feel really uneasy. I eventually grew numb to it because it had to be done. No one said life on the farm was gonna be pretty!
Q: What was your favourite activity while being on the farm?
Holly B: Manual labor- I liked trimming the trees and then coming back out there and seeing all of our progress. Domestic work- Talking with Rachel in the kitchen was really nice, especially learning how she grows and produces most of the family’s food.
Q: After the experience at the farm, how do you think your future relationship with food will be affected?
Justin S: I think previously I wasn’t very conscious of where my food came from. After learning of the practices that factory farms have, I will be more mindful of choosing which meats to buy in the future.
Q: What is one way you hope to change after being on the farm?
Holly B: I’m hoping to be more conscious of the water, food, and resources I am wasting.
