A week ago we parted from our host families and Rabulu village with tears and heavy hearts but excited for the fun times ahead. This past week was our free travel week, which means that the students decide everything, including the food, how we get around, activities, and even the places we stay. After a challenging search, we agreed to spend the week in the Vatia Beach Resort, in a set of colorful bures set into the hill. The resort is beautiful, with lights strung from the trees, a coral beach, a volleyball net, and even two swings.
The was certainly a relaxing week for the group. We swam in the inexplicably warm ocean, suntanned on the beach, and caught up on some reading. We also broke out the snorkeling masks and saw some interesting coral and fish. Several group members were feeling adventurous so they grabbed a kayak and paddled over to the small island across the bay. Every evening we were treated to a gorgeous sunset over the Pacific Ocean. During our last night our leaders surprised us with a cake to celebrate our completion of half the trip, just last week.
Although we're sorry to say goodbye to Fiji, we are excited about our new experiences and adventures in Australia.
Moce, Fiji, and G'day Australia!
