Greetings from Kolkata!
Hello outside world! It is Paulo Alfaro writing on behalf of the Shanti group here in India. The last week has been a whole new experience out of this world. India’s diversification never ceases to amaze me. Every single place we go is a completely different, wonderful, jaw-dropping experience. It is truly magical. And everyday I am grateful to have chosen such a beautiful place to spend three months in.
So we were in Bodhgaya the last week. The place in which Buddha attained enlightenment. It is the most sacred place in Buddhism by far. Every Buddhists nation has a monastery or place in this area. Carpe Diem took us to a place called The Root Institute where Tibetan Buddhism is practiced. An oasis. Everything about the place was graceful and magnificent. From the nature surrounding all the property to the amazing people staying there. People from all over the world with so many different backgrounds. So the connection and home-like feeling one felt in that place was inexplicable. We did a one week retreat course in which we were introduced to Buddhism and its philosophies. Our day consisted on meditation and teachings made by a fellow American monk which was highly educated and friendly. Silence was a major part of the course. Throughout the day silence was asked for. And speaking was limited to only a couple hours. Self-reflection was a key part of the course. So as one can imagine it was an extremely peaceful environment.
Yet another great experience here in Mother India which we will carry for the rest of our lives. Now here in Kolkata another adventure awaits. Thank you India!
