Fiji transitioning to Australia

To quote one Charles Dickens, “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Our time in Fiji was a roller coaster from start to finish. Some of our favorite moments in Fiji were the first few days at Bamboo Backpackers, enjoying our opening kava circles, late night pool swims, and lazy afternoon hammock naps. We visited one of the most pristine beaches I have ever witnessed in my life, and spent the day swimming in crystal clear water and eating pineapples in white sand. In addition, the village homestays were a highlight; spending time bonding with our families and the seemingly never ending stream of laughing children, and of course tea time at 3:30 every afternoon, and all the delicious cakes, donuts, and sweets that we ate. That being said, Fiji has been our most difficult chapter, in every way possible. Many members of our group made poor decisions and will not be continuing with us on this last leg in Australia. It has been very difficult losing friends, but we are working on moving forward in a positive way to make the most of our last few weeks together. Whether we’re looking forward to our week of diving on the Great Barrier Reef, crafting shops in Newcastle, surfing Australia’s beautiful coast, or even all the vegan pastries Sydney has to offer, all of us have found something positive after a few hard weeks. We have nowhere to go but up, and Australia is the perfect place to find the silver lining!
