Since arriving in Greece we spent a little over a week in a beautiful village in the mountains of Crete. During our time there we got to experience many different activities such as sunrise/sunset hikes, feeding goats with a shepherd, exploring ancient archaeological sites, doing greek lessons, swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, eating delicious food, and celebrating both Sage & Reilly’s birthdays! Our time on Crete was a great way to start off the second half of our trip and we are now in Athens excited for some city time!
What were three of the top highlights this week?:
– During our time on Crete we got to go swimming three times. The water is so clear and we had fun using goggles to explore. Each time was at a different beach which gave us the opportunity to see different parts of the island!
– The village we stayed at was definitely a favorite, with traditional Greek architecture, great views of the sea and surrounding mountains, and home-cooked traditional Greek meals!
– Lastly, we got to celebrate two birthdays! On Sage’s birthday we went on a sunset hike with beautiful views of both sides of the island. On Reilly’s birthday we went to the beach in the afternoon. Even though it was windy out, the water was warm and we had a fun time!
What is something you or the group is challenged by this week?:
This past week was very chill and there were no big challenges that we encountered. Towards the end of our time on Crete the weather started to get cooler and windier, so we had to adjust to that and get though some very windy days and nights.
🌎 What are you most grateful for this week?:
We are looking forward to our time in Athens, exploring sites like the Acropolis and Parthenon, as well as getting some free time. Also, next week is student directed travel, which we are very excited for! We are going to the island of Aegina and have been planning since Rome. We are excited for things like beach days, snorkeling, and exploring a new place entirely by our own planning!
