CVA

G’Day Mate!

This week has been our first week in the land down under. We have kicked off Australia volunteering with the CVA (Conservation Volunteers of Australia). We started our orientation at the CVA headquarters in Adelaide, where we found out our projects and where our work sites would be and who was going to which work site, at the deep creek site was Bea, Tera, Emily, Katelyn, Evin and Brooke and at the Brookefield site was Robbie and Anna. We arrived to Deep Creek later that afternoon and got comfortable in our new home for the week. The next morning we headed out to begin doing our project, trail maintenance. There were a few complications on our first day but once we all got into the swing of things, it was smooth sailing. Our second day and last day we also did track maintenance all day, while the flys were extremely plentiful and they were challenges we all managed to survive, have fun and enjoy spectacular views. Our third day we took down fences to prevent the kangaroo’s from hurting themselves trying to go through the fence. That also had plenty of flies but lots of Kangaroo’s too. Then on most evening when we were back at the house we would get movies and make some rocking group dinners with our CVA leader Rick. At the end of the week we went up to Brookfield and met up with Anna and Robbie (without his beard!) and had a Barbeque to celebrate our last night. As a last Hoorah we all spent one more morning volunteering pulling weeds and filling holes in the road. All in all working with the CVA has been an educational and great experience to have and now it’s time to look forward to going to the Outback!

Cheers,
Evin
