Hello Central America students and families,
Thank you to everyone who has called or emailed us with concerns about the eruption of Vocan de Fuego in Guatemala. We have also been following the situation in Guatemala and have been in touch with our contacts there. We just wanted to reassure you that, in talking with contacts at TACA, we’ve been told that everything is fine at the airport, flights are still arriving and departing, and that no flights have been cancelled thus far due to the volcano.
Additionally, upon arrival both groups are being picked up directly from the airport and driven to sites that have been unaffected by the volcano. Neither group is going to be in or around areas that have been evacuated. We are very much open to modifying either group’s itinerary if we feel safety would be at risk. We will keep you updated if any changes are made, but for now, we feel the itinerary as it is does not need to change due to the volcano.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email heather@carpediemeducation.org or call our office on Monday.
All the best,
Heather Diamond
