Sometimes you can forget where you went, how you got there, or what you did, but it is rare to forget the people you share such a powerful experience with. One of our core principles is community building, and it is a value we hope to instill in each and every one of our students.
The Carpe Diem Education photo contest started strong with your PEOPLE photo submissions, which were a testament to just that! Be it photos of the locals or photos of your American friends, your Carpe Diem families are beautiful – thank you for sharing them with us.

And now, the WINNER….
"…in the Mufindi Region of Tanzania, when our host brother told us that it was time for the daily chore of fetching water. Walking across the street with my older brother and 11 year old sister, through the pine forest, and down the hill that was so steep I had to go down sideways, a bucket tied around my back with a kanga, a sense of dread filled me. We have to walk back up this, with buckets of water on our heads? Yep. We finally go to the bottom and filled out buckets from the trickle of the spring, rolled the kangas, and put the buckets on our heads. My host sister, Faraja, took it like a champ. Sometimes she had to do it four times a day. Barefoot up the hill, she did not spill a drop. No hands. Me? I took a shower. I tripped, I had to use two hands and sing myself a song to keep myself going. It got a little bit easier every time, but if I had to do that every day, I would have a neck problem. These are the things that start to sink in when you travel. " – @greymgondella
