Bulaaa!

Today the walkabout group made it safely to Auckland, New Zealand. We are here for one more day, then head to the organic farm with Tom and Pj for one week.

We all had a fantastic time in Fiji, and miss it very much. Our time in Nadala was incredible and will always be cherished. Our community service project turned out great! We constructed a cement path leading from the community hall to the road, and two additional paths from to the community hall to the nearby bathroom and the side entrance to the hall. We worked hard mixing cement, shoveling dirt, and poring cement into the path. The villagers were all extremely grateful as were we for getting the chance to serve them. After we finished, they held a ceremony for the opening of the path, Grant and Brooke cut the ribbon to officially open it. It was a proud moment for all of us.

When we weren’t working, we were either spening time with our homestay families or hanging out with the villagers. We had some great times playing vollyball, soccer and participating in the local high school’s track and field games–although we had a few tumbles along the way (Grant). To cool off on a hot day, we would go down to the local river and swim with the local guys, who we really became close with.

On our final day, the village had a going away ceremony, complete with lots of kava drinking and dancing all night long. It was a bittersweet time as we were ready to continue our adventure, but were sad to part ways with all of the great people we met.

From Nadala, we spent a day and a half in Nadi, the capital city of Fiji. It was a nice time to relax for a day before heading to New Zealand. Now we’re here and going to the farm in two days!

Mothe Cho! ( Fijian saying that means bye, joe.)
