Tashi Delek from McLeod Ganj! We’re packed and ready for our trek into the Himalayas! We hope to reach Triund Hill and enjoy a beautiful view of the neighboring mountain peaks without too much rain and harsh weather–we’ll post pictures when we get the chance, but for now, there are some breathtaking previews if you do a quick google search. We’ll be back after a 4 day adventure so stay tuned!
In the past few days we’ve journeyed to lower Dharamsala and visited the Gyuto Tantric Monastic University and watched some little monks playing tag as they ran up the stairs to the beautiful monastery at the call of a giant bugle. From there, we got on the bus and were vividly reminded of Delhi as we were thrown about on the roads, jam-packed with Indians emanating that Indian smell we had almost forgotten about during our stay in McLeod Ganj, which is mostly Tibetan. We splurged for a wonderful lunch at a restaurant on the grounds of the Norbulinka Summer Palace, which retains and passes down Tibetan traditions such as woodcarving and dollmaking to the younger generation. The meal, though, was great. Theresa (Chai), Steph, Alexa, Coby, and Nate toughed it out in the rain while the rest ate inside. Ellen threw away all inhibitions and ate an entire cheese pizza, some cheese sticks, and a slice of cheese cake before finally throwing her napkin on the plate. As we ran through the rain with or without an umbrella borrowed from the restaurant, we came upon a massive, colorful temple housing a giant golden buddha. With the rain humming in the background, we meditated, took naps, listened to music, and just sat quietly and rebuilt our peace of mind after the experiences of the week.
Also, all of you reading this should wish Haley a Happy Birthday! We had a wonderful celebration for her yesterday on the roof of the infamous Mama’s Cafe. Kali Shoo to you all (and to McLeod Ganj)!
