From the crazy city of Kampala, to the quaint small town of Kabale, it’s safe to say we are getting the best of Uganda. A long bus ride from Kampala to Kabale of course didn’t go uneventful, Colin got puked on from the person in front of him, bad choice on that window seat…
We settled in the dorms of the Edirisa Hostile and met other travelers from all around the world. We all quickly fell in love with this town in the mountains and used our down time to explore.
We headed out to SNEC (Special Needs Education Center) to start our volunteer work. Our project was fixing up the children’s boxes, where they keep their belongings. With paint and sponges we created special designs for each of the kids. When we weren’t painting we were in the kitchen preparing meals for the week. I loved getting to bond with everyone over cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had meals from Mac n Cheese to rice and beans. It was awesome getting to take on the role as a chef.
After a hard goodbye to the amazing people and kids we worked with at SNEC we are back in Kabale ready to embark on our canoe trek!
