Today the Africa nkula cohort took a trip to a local mosque. To our surprise the mosque was funded by the well-known dictator Gaddafi. In a city so small and broken down to see a mosque as eloquent as this I’m sure it forced everyone to think. Personally, I thought that the money could have gone to better use but the sites were breathtaking.
The guide showed us around the mosque, and shared the history of his city. The students walked into the main room that was absolutely beautiful which composed of lush rugs, unbelievable stain glass windows, and detailed crown molding/ sky light. After everyone came to terms with how amazing the place of worship is the guide took u to a spiral staircase.
The spiral staircase (which you see in the photo) led everyone to a breath taking view of the city. I said that being so high and able to see the city for what it is made me feel content, and appreciative. Sav thought that being able to see how the city operated was beautiful. It allowed her to develop a more intimate relationship with Africa. Everyone else was so consumed with taking photos and appreciating the moment that I didn’t feel right interrupting them.
This moment will be treasured forever by all, and I know everyone is looking forward to the rest of the trip!
