Hello all! We are all showered and cleaned up as we just returned home to McLeod Ganj after five days spent trekking in the beautiful Himalayas. We started out from our guest house in town, met up with our guide Anil and began the ascent right from town! The first night was spent at Triund where we were all taken away by the incredible views, delicious food, and steaming chai, all while sitting peacefully in a cozy tea house. The second day we continued on up but stopped early at a small mountain cafe called Snow Lion as it proceeded to downpour and hail for multiple hours. The eight of us were drinking chai and eating cookies, constantly laughing and were cuddled up together with many blankets. We had a great time being able to bond as a group and relax while enjoying the clouds and rain as they took over the mountains. On the third day we decided to take a day hike to a nearby glacier and waterfall which was spectacular! Although the hike up was quite difficult, getting to swim in the ice-cold water and take part in a snowball fight was worth it. The fourth day was the most difficult as it seemed we were off trail the entire day. We spent an hour in silent meditation in the morning, hiked in a cloud all day long down a steep, muddy path, and eventually ended at a beautiful temple! Our last night was excellent as we shared great food with our guide and porters, sang Indian songs, learned card tricks, star-gazed and slept in the holy temple together.
We head out tomorrow to stay with Tibetan families for a week. Stay tuned for updates on our homestay adventures!
Much love from the Shiva group!
