We explored the accent town of Perugia, and learned about the history of the city. After a local lunch at a well known sand which shop we further explored Perugia and tried new and unique gelato flavors. Back at Panta Rei, we explored wood working with Julio our host. We gathered kindling, chopped wood and learned how to make a cross fence. For dinner we made homemade pizza with Hamza, the chef. Saying goodbye to our first host we traveled to Gambassi Terme, where we met our new host Lauren. At a traditional pilgrim hostel, Lauren introduced us to the history of the Via Francigena and gave us gifts to motivate us on the trail. Throughout the journey we bonded over steep hills, silly jokes and the Tuscan scenery. We met a medieval impersonator who taught us about the old life style of his people and Luca a local bread maker. Thus far we have made it over half way through our journey. We are excited to see what’s to come!
What were three of the top highlights this week?:
We had the chance to experiment with medieval weaponry. It was intriguing to contemplate how medievel soldiers relied on these weapons. We enjoyed making pizzas with Giulio and his team, while also hanging out and playing games. Dondoli the worlds best gelato was a pleasant surprise after hiking!
What is something you or the group is challenged by this week?:
It has been an adjustment from being in one place for a week to moving and staying in a different place every night. It’s hard to find the routine within the bouncing around, but the group has been a good support for each other. From playing steal the sardines, who has the stick and bonding over music, we have made the adventures fun and enjoyable!
🌎 What are you most grateful for this week?:
The group is excited to be exploring Florence and having time to bond and eat authentic food, while practicing our Italian!
