Hey this is Sarah! This week we had the amazing opportunity to spend time at Pangthang Junior High! We spent time with the students teaching them some of our western games such as Bob the Weasel, Ninja and Red Light/Green Light. The students got a chance to practice their English to interact with our group members. The students were awesome and caught on really quickly to the rules. They were very eager to learn new games and to interact with us foreigners. The students we worked with ages ranged from 10-16 years old. Though we only worked with the school for three days, they made a significant impact on the group. The students were very interested in what America was like, and they spent a lot of time asking us questions about the most famous sport, what was our largest crop, and how many football (soccer) stadiums there are in the States. Language might have been a barrier at some points but the students really impressed us when we decided to play some word games with them on the last day. They really knew their stuff! It was definitely a bittersweet goodbye from Pangtang Junior High. We thought it was only right to repay the school for their generosity with some gifts for the students. We shared the traditions of the West by giving the school a thank you card and a handshake to thank them for all they did for us, while the principal shared with us traditions of Sikkim with the gift of a Kata (a traditional scarf given to say thank you and goodbye) for each of our group members. We will always remember Pangtang Junior High and the people we met there. One day I hope to go back there and see some of my new friends once again! We are looking forward to our trek in the mountains and the cold weather that comes with it!
